Lisa got mad at me today...
She told me that I hurt her feelings and to leave. I don't think she really wanted me to though. She went into her bedroom and pouted a bit while I was writing down some notes about her eating. I will just say that she eats to eat, whether she is hungry or not. She had just eaten a pretty big lunch after church and I showed up with my family about a 1/2 hour to 45 min after she ate, and she was eating a big bowl of dry cereal for a snack.
I had a talk with her about her clothes not fitting and such. She didn't like it. I didn't either. I hate being so blunt with her, but that is the only way to be sometimes. I would have hurt my feelings too!!!
I am open to suggestions here. I think maybe a scheduled snack time might work. She has oranges, apples, grapes and popcorn available in her reach. She goes down to the common area for her bowls of cereal...I know she has at least 1 if not 2 bowls a day, on top of her own snacks, like PNB or chips.
Lisa IS doing very well though. She is beginning to eat with her right hand, with an adaption for holding her fork. She was not able to do this 2 weeks ago. This is huge! Lori, her staff got so excited that she taped it and sent it to Karen and I via email. Very exciting.
I wrote her a card, it said "You Go Girl" she called me and asked me if I was pregnant! LOL!!!!!!! How funny. She misunderstood that I was telling her that I was proud of her. She read that, but thought it was an invitation. Crack me up!
She started bowling again, she uses a ramp. She loves, really loves to bowl. She is slowly getting back to doing things like she used to, it will take a long time to get to where she was, but it's all good.

It's going...
Lisa is Lisa...
Today I popped in for a minute to visit her. She just got back from her OT and PT...the note from her staff was discouraging. Karen and I are not able to be with her as much for her therapies so we only have the staff to rely on for feedback. Lisa cried during therapy. She was put on the treadmill and did not like it, she also was put on an exercise tramp for balance and again, did not like it. She told me she was scared. I told her the therapists would not let her fall. She is so cautious and is fearful of falling and does not want to try new things, thus keeping her from improving.
As a sister, I tell her to try, or to just do it. She will try and in most cases do whatever is asked, because I am her sister and she will do it for me...but other people are not like that and don't have the respect or relationship we do and if she does not want to do something, she doesn't have to. Do you know how frustrating that is??????? Aughhhhhh.
We have some decisions to make I think. I don't know what kind of decisions we will have to make, but Lisa needs to be pushed, a lot more than she is. It is the way we were raised, it is how Lisa got to where she is today, well, you know. It is truly amazing to see how much she gets away with because the expectations are so low... I need to get off my negative soap box now.
She did get to go to Karen's surprise 40th birthday party at Beningo's this past Saturday. I got her there and had a couple of guys from our group help her down the stairs in her wheelchair. She was so happy to be there for Karen! She was a bit perturbed about not eating supper at 4:30 like usual. She let me know about it too, but she wasn't complaining when she got her very fav food...lasagna!
She has been coming to church and taking communion. Her drooling is getting better. We hope and pray that she will be able to go back to work in the future. She needs to work on swallowing.
Amy has some pictures of us...she will post:)

Blizzard!
We are in the midst of a HUGE blizzard. Lisa is safe and sound and staying with Karen.
Seriously, Karen and Dad closed the store at 12 today and headed to their homes for a good 2 days I'd say. It is crazy! The wind is so strong, the snow sounds like sleet against the windows...maybe it is sleet. Not going outside to find out!
Lisa is doing really well. We just have some, well, lots of tweaking to do for her to totally succeed. Trying different things, getting different foods and rationing her diet Pepsi's. We thought we had it licked, but we thought wrong.
Karen and I no longer need to get her up or put her to bed but we worry that whoever does it, does it the way we would and treats her the way we would. That is hard to manage, hard to give up. I think that through all of this, I have learned that she needs us far more than I ever thought...it is sobering to think that she has needed us all along and we weren't there too awful much.
Happy Blizzard!
Personally, I'd prefer a chocolate one:) But I do enjoy snuggling up and having nowhere to go, knowing that my sisters and dad and families are snug at home. Praying the power stays on for the duration of this monstrous storm!
