Lisa's worries

After Lisa got her hair cut, Karen said that Lisa was very upset. She (Lisa) read the letter that was emailed to friends and family. We didn't keep anything from her; but we didn't totally explain it in her terms. When I sat with her in the Dr's office a few months ago, I just assumed that she would remember...she didn't. Short term memory.

She didn't answer the phone when I tried to call her, eventually Karen got through to her. Karen told Lisa that with every surgery there are risks like when she had Parker, she could have died. Lisa was very quiet. Then Karen said to me, that Lisa said the sweetest thing...

Lisa: "Karen, could you talk to Dr Tracy and tell him to keep my memory in there?"

When I talked to her, she said about the same thing, but was really worried that she wouldn't remember that on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and;she wouldn't remember how to get to her favorite place to eat breakfast.

I asked her if she was scared and she answered "yes" I told her that that was OK, we just need to pray about it. I told her that the reason that she was having this surgery is because she forgets sometimes that she does have seizures and that the more she has, she wouldn't remember things. She understood. I explained that the doctors want to try to help her not have seizures so that she can continue to remember. She was fine with that answer. Simple.

I asked "Can I pray with you on the phone?"
Lisa,  "I'm watching Wheel of Fortune" (every single night at 6:00)
me " can we pray?"
Lisa" go ahead" she was irritated with me.
me " OK, close your eyes and fold your hands"
Lisa "OK" with a sigh of irritation, so I made it quick.
Me " Dear God, thank you for Lisa and for her seizure surgery. Please help Lisa not be worried and to pray to you when she is. Amen. "

Lisa " Bye, love you"
Me "call me anytime you are worried, I don't care what time it is...I love you. Bye"

She is so cute. I need to remember that she is so child like and that she really wants to be heard...we are listening Lisa, we just want for you what you and Mom always did. No more seizures.
